Really Sweet Story From my Teaching Book
“During his senior year in high school, Olly cut class one day and was hanging around in the library when he noticed a book with a provocative woman on the cover. he wanted to read the book, but was afraid to check it out because his friends might find out that he was reading. He said he wanted to be known for fighting and cussing, not reading, so he stole the book. Weeks later when he returned the book to its place on the shelf, he noticed another book by the same author. He stole that one too, and ended up reading four books by Frank Yerby, an African American author. Olly Neal became a reader, went to law school, and became an appellate judge in the Arkansas Court of Appeals. He learned a hidden part of his own story for the first time at this thirteenth high school reunion. The librarian had noticed him stealing the first book, realized why he was stealing, drove to Memphis to buy another Yerby book, and placed the new book on the shelf where he would find it. She made three trips to Memphis.”

My Classes this Semester
Introduction to the Learner and Learning - Content focus is on understanding growth and development of the cognitive, emotional, social, and physical domains of school age youth and adolescents. Emphasis is on application of concepts and principles to the practice of culturally responsive, inclusive education in collaboration with families and communites through development of appropriate skill sets and dispositions.
Human Relations in a Multicultural Society - Students will be exposed to many aspects of human relations in a multicultural society. This course prepares students to critically examine the social and cultural foundations of inequality in the society and in public education. This main purpose of this course is the study and application of positive relationships in diverse communities in school and the larger community, through in-class explorations as well as service learning work in schools and the community.
Art History Survey I - Introduction to art history from prehistoric and ancient cultures through the Middle Ages. Includes representative examples and styles of art and architecture of Western (Europe and the Near East) and non-Western cultures (China, India, Japan, Southeast Asia, Africa, Mesoamerica, South America, North America, Australia).
Ancient Peoples - A general survey of the evolution of human society from the earliest times to the development of written languages. Topics include the evolution of tools, the agricultural revolution, and the origins of urban life.
I'm honestly pretty psyched about all of it.

Traditional Camping Party
I grew up in a small town in Minnesota, and it is my absolute favorite city on earth. There's a small campground along the river where my friends and I have been camping ever since we were old enough to go on trips without our parents (or, for many of us, lie about it).
For me, I've been camping here since I was 14 (my big brother always came with, so I never had to lie haha). Ever since we make a point to come back at least once a summer and have a big camping party. This year we realized it was our first year ever without any highschoolers.
We had people driving in from hours away all over the state coming home from college or wherever for our little annual reunion. A lot of us hadn't seen eachother in years, and it's always so nice to reconnect with people.
We stayed up until 5 a.m. just telling old stories and reminiscing. It was a truely fantastic weekend.

Why Start Blogging?

I think I would like to make another sort of introductory post to give any potential readers an idea of what to expect on my blog and what made me want to blog in the first place.
Well I'm hoping to start for a few reasons..
1. Community- The first blog I ever started reading was Color Me Katie, in spring of 2010. Within this last year and a half I've discovered many blogs and am continuously being blown away by the amount of awesome creative people in the blogging world. I always felt weird commenting on posts like a stranger. I would like to connect with others and put a sort of face behind my statements.
2. Inspiration- I am constantly finding so much inspiration around the internet world and I would love to share it with as many people as possible. I'm hoping to take and give a little inspiration (and encouragement) between myself and other bloggers. I am currently planning a series of 'blogger of the moment' type posts to share some of the blogs that have inspired me in the first place.
3. Motivation- Even if all I'm posting is silly doodles and bad animations, having that pressure to post something new will keep me motivated to work more on my art and my writing. I also realize that I have a long ways to improve and I'm also hoping that I can use this blog to track that improvement.
Thank you so much for stopping by, I can't wait to actually start sharing with you.

Who am I?
While I work on getting my little blog mapped out and under construction, I thought I'd give you a bit of a taste of who I am.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My name is Tina and I am 19 years old. I am a college student in Minnesota. I am an aspiring cartoonist/comic book artist/animator/illustrator/art teacher/so so many other things. Although, I realize, I have a lot of room for improvement.
I also work at a home for 11 mentally handicapped residents. It is the greatest, most rewarding job of all time, and I love my residents so so much. (Although honestly, I mostly just make coffee, vaccuum, and clean toilets.)
I love cartoons and animation, children's books and illustrations, comics, anything vintage (specifically 1930s-50s era), music, nature, animals (specifically reptiles, rodents, and insects), Halloween and costuming, theatre, video games, reading, and pretty much everything.

I am an adventurer.
I am positive, optimistic, sunny, friendly, kind, and I can't wait to get to know you all through this.

Whoops
Maybe starting a blog the same week as starting school and a full work schedule was not the best idea.
So much for posting every day.
Bear with me, this blog may be under construction for a while.
